DX'd by a gastroenterolgist 7/99. 73 yo, m, Cauc. Had many exams for heart
trouble, "chest" pains, before final DX. No mets to date. Started
treatment with 25 radiation doses and simultaneous Gemzar at low doseage. Not
recognized as very effective but held the tumor at bay. Read in the chat
section of the Rubitican clinical trials through "Debbie of Conn"
(great help). Was accepted and assigned the control drug, 5-FU, by infusion
and started in 11/99. Gradually reduced tumor from more than 4 cms to about
2.5 cms. Unfortunately, diarrhea developed to such a level that about 6 weeks
ago the dosage of 5-FU was reduced so much that it was considered
ineffective. I now have 3 weeks of Rubitecan under my belt and am starting to
tolerate it quite well. The fluids required to drink are a real problem and
the pain meds had to be adjusted. Today is 7/22/00. May your God bless and
protect you all.
