Gene--Sorry about your friend. I think that the clot(which could also come in the form of a heart attack--so I'm told) could be caused by either the treatment or the cancer but more likely the cancer. As it was explained to be, the tumor presses against major arteries and veins in the abdomen area and this causes blood to "pool" which causes clotting. In essence, it slows down the flow of the blood to other areas. My husband was on procrit also and this can cause clots in a small amount of people. Don't know if the gemzar chemo) can do that or not but it can cause fluid retention which can also causing clotting. So, naseau(sp?) and hair loss aren't the only side effects! The doctors that treated my husband wanted to call the cause of his death a blood clot because their big thing is to be able to say that their patients don't die of cancer. However, his GP signed the death certificate and he put down that the cause of death was pancreatic cancer--no reference to the clot. I was glad for that!
