If the surgeon (and please choose a good one who has done many, many of these procedures) feel she is a good candidate, do not hesitate. While he/she may take only part of her pancreas, it is possible that the entire organ will have to be removed along with her gall bladder and other organs. If the entire pancreas is taken out, she will develop Type 1 diabetes and while this is difficult, it is far better than the alternative which is developing pancreatic cancer. At 16 months after a total pancreatectomy, I am doing great.
