I was dx with pc in Feb. of 96. Within two days I was in for surgery for a whipple procedure. I spent six weeks in ICU, then another six weeks in the onc ward. I then went to a rehab center, then back to the hospital for more blood. I kept on having infections from my site. Finally the doctors put in a Leonard in my back. It was a bigger site and it hurt quite a bit, but it was a godsend. I never had another problem with my TPN for the year and a half that I was on it. I was 46 at the time I was dx. P.C. is also in my family. My uncle has died from it and also his grandson. My uncle did not have the whipple, but his grandson did. Both died about three months after dx. I am the lucky one. It has changed my lifestyle, but that is for the good. I feel that I am doing great now. If anyone has any doubts about having the whipple procedure, please give it a second thought. It helps.
