MARIAN
My aunt Marian passed away about 10 years from pancreatic ca. She
wasundiagnosed for months before doctors figured out what was going on and at
the end, was in extreme pain. My mother was just diagnosed in February of
2000 with pancreatic cancer. Hers too had spread too far for any hope of
cure, and at her age of 82 opted for no treatment-just to be kept
comfortable. These two ladies were sisters. Neither smoked, drank alcohol or
had any known risk factors that I have read about. The only possible link
might be that my mother had breast cancer 5 years ago and is in remission
from that. I understand there may be some link between breast and pancreatic
cancers if a mutated BRCA2 gene is involved. This is not going to be an easy
journey. The family is completely supportive of my mom and our mission is to
care for her and keep her as comfortable as humanly possible with this
progression.
