Michelle Lefkowitz Michelle 'Mary' Lefkowitz, of Middlebury, died Wednesday,
Oct. 26, at her home after a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was
78. Mrs. Lefkowitz was the wife of Dr. Seymour Lefkowitz. She was born on
Eldridge St on the Lower East Side, Manhattan,N.Y., May 16, 1927 to Bessie
and Harry Weissberg. She grew up in Coney Island and attended PS 188, Mark
Twain,Lincoln High School and NYU where she studied business. She went on to
become a buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue and specialty stores. After moving to
Waterbury,Connecticut in the 1950s, raising 6 children, she then launched
Finishing Touches, a successful gift and gourmet basket company. Mrs.
Lefkowitz lived for a time early in her marriage in Lausanne, Switzerland
with her husband while he attended medical school. She loved to travel and
often spent her summers entertaining her children, grandchildren and anyone
else who stopped by in Rockport, Massachusetts. She was deeply loved by many
and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Other than her husband
of 56 years, Mrs. Lefkowitz is survived by six children and multiple
grandchildren.
78 year old female, adenocarcinoma,head of Pancreas; Stage III at diagnosis
initially diagnosed at Brigham-Women's Hospital May 2002 by Dr. Kenneth H.
Falchuk, with initial surgery performed Dr.Michael Zinner. Later surgery was
performed by Dr. Keith Lillemoe at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Chemotherapy under
care of Dr.Robert Mayer, Dana Farber, & Dr.Kurt Sabbath,Waterbury
Hospital,Middlebury,Connecticut
