Randy Stein did 8 years without a whipple before the cancer finally got him. Along the way there were a number of chemos or chemo combos that he was on. PanCAN has his full story.

So, there can be hope but alot has to do with luck if the tumor responds. Unfortunately, they often have to try a chemo first and then determine if it works or not. Also some chemos will work for awhile and then loose their effectiveness over time.
