Hello, This is the best sight I have found since what seems like an eternity ago. In aug of 07 my stepfather as told he had a cyst on his pancreas-not to worry. Four months later he was hospitalized due to so much back pain. Another CT scan showed a cyst with a mass. HE was sent for a biopsy and told he has pc. We live in Buffalo, NY so we went to Roswell Park for appointment. He was told that the whipple could not be done because the tumor has encompassed the celiac arter, portal vein and portal artery. The cancer has not metastized. He is going to be starting Gemzar and Tarceva. I have been researching and found a procedure called Cyberknife and we are awaiting to hear if he is a candidate. We are also looking into some alternative therapies- the Gerson Therapy which is a very strict died regimin. HE has not read anything or asked any questions. I can't imagine what he is going through. I just want to gather all the information I can for him. The Docs have said the typical thing. We can improve quality not quanity of life. THey are not God. I feel he has already lost hope. Can anyone offer advice. Can the whipple be done when these veins and arteries are involved? I read that there are Docs out there with more experience with this. ANone heard of the cyperknife? I am feeling as though I am the only one trying to save him. Sorry for the long winded story. Please help!!
