Jimmy Carter's family story seems to point to pc being hereditary:

My FIL just got diagnosed at 70 with PC. His mother died at 52 from diabetic complications 30 years ago, but we suspect pc. Also 3 of his sisters died of breast cancer. My husband is 47 and I am going to be proactive and look into genetic testing. It seems the earlier you are able to detect pc, the better the prognosis. I agree...a healthier lifestyle in 2008 for all of us is the lesson we are learning.
