Thank you all so much for your replies...something tells me I will be calling on you all again for a while...In reply to some of your answers- Cindy NC..Thank you..you are truly a rare treasure and I am so amazed at your strength for still being there for all of us after everything you just went through. Yes, the hospice nurse I spoke to on the phone also told me that the food my dad eats really does nourish the cancer more than the healthy cells in the body, and that is the reason for the weight loss as the cancer overpowers the good cells, keeping them from growing and keeping him from gaining weight. In reply to the hospice nurse...I did greet the nurse that came to the house outside,to make sure the plan was clear that we were going to introduce hospice slowly, starting with the idea of 'home care' and bridging over to hospice, as my dad gets scared at the word 'hospice' as being the very end. She said she understood, but within the first 5 minutes she was talking about his 6-month prognosis and asking if he had a power of atty and a will in place. The look on his face was heartbreaking. He explained he knew his prognosis was grim, but that he still wanted to try to gain strength to qualify for a clinical trial. She told him he probably wouldnt get any stronger. That was when I called the office. Even though we all know the future, I couldnt understand why she was so blunt and left a feeling of no hope. Sorry to ramble...maybe I've stayed away from the board too long and am letting it all out now!! Sorry! Thank you all again...I will fill you all in on how it goes tomorrow. Wishing you all a good night.
