First, let me express my prayers for your Father and for You. It is not easy being a caregiver, not to mention having to watch a loved one suffer. My sister had pancreatic cancer and I was one of her caregivers. I am far from a Florence Nightengale type but you do what you have to do.Hospice is an agency that deals with the terminally ill. They are not expecting your father to live and does not really offer any hope. They did ask my sister about her will and also asked her about the DOA which she chose to ignore. It is hard for the patient to deal with finality as well as the family caregiver. The Hospice worker would ask us about the DOA, but my sister took a L_O_N_G time to finally sign it. Hospice is to help death come more comfortably and do not offer anything to prolong life...Just make life more comfortable until the end. During the last few weeks we placed my sister in the Hospice facility. It was a very nice place. Large rooms with a pull out bed for stayovers and nice chairs..TV and radio and large windows..Really Really nice..and fully staffed. The facility had a family room with a full kitchen. We could all come to visit her and it was very roomy and as pleasant as could be..Your Dad will lose his appetite, so giving him the foods that he enjoys most will be the best that you can do..Keep your strenth up, pray and trust that God will see you through these bad times..Praying for You and you Dad
