Before you can adequately evaluate what the gp is saying, you need to find out WHY he doesn't think your dad should have the procedure. Is there some risk that he doesn't think your dad should take? There are some risks to the procedure, such as paralysis, but the chances of that can be minimized if the person who performs the procedure has a lot of experience in doing them. Sorry you're faced with this quandry. Best of luck to your dad.
