Am visiting with my mom. Jaundice is probably caused by a restriction in the common bile duct which prevents bile from draining into the stomach. My mom had a stent inserted in the bile duct to allow the bile to flow into the stomach and aid dige stion. The process is called an ERCP. Her dr. said that if the stent was not inserted when it was,

she would have experienced jaundice within two days. Hope this info helps and that your father in law is doing better.

Our experience has been that diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and its presentation is very difficult.
