It was first brought up at USC. My father's surgeon mentioned he was trying
to hire a radiologist away from UCLA. Turns out, the doctor wasn't for hire
and my father's surgeon recommended doing it at USC. Dad wanted the
radiologist his surgeon mentioned. In the end, the surgeon did set it up
with the radiologist he tried to hire at UCLA. The abdominal interventional
radiologist was Dr. David Lu.
The procedure is in and out on the same day. It was actually done in the
pediatric surgery room since it was available and bigger than the small room
where it is normally done. That was about this time in 2002.
