I've heard that chemo has in some cases reduced the tumor enough so that removal is possible. The only reason it's not an option for my own Mom is because she had mets to the liver. As for remission? Well, I suppose it's possible but I just don't know how probable. A doctor can better provide those odds. From what I understand, the reason treatments work for a certain amount of time is because you'll have one type of cancer on the outside and as the treatment works its way through and shrinks the cancer, there will be almost like another "layer" of cancer underneath that is completely different and totally nonresponsive to the treatment. That's one of major problems with pancreatic cancer --- the only standard treatment that has proven to work at this point apparently is Gemzar and unless they develop something to treat whatever it is that is underneath (so to speak) then our battle is only temporarily won. If anyone else out there has better information or if I'm dead wrong, please feel free to respond...I'm certainly no doctor, this is just the way it was all explained to me.
