They give steroids with Gemzar. Steroids raise blood sugar alot. It usually takes 1 1/2 days to 2 days to settle down. So you will probably have to adjust the insulin. Discuss this with the nurse or Dr who will be giving him the chemo. After a few times they had to cut the steroid dose in half for my husband. They usually give nausea med in the I.V. My husband's was Zofran. My husband had very little side effects from Gemzar, fatigue mostly and later on poor appetite.
