We had a similar experience just over a year ago. My husband (48) has a large (4.7cm) pancreatic tumor. Whipple was unsuccessful due to artery involvement but tumor tested benign (apparently extremely rare). He recovered nicely from the operation and continues to be well. No treatment (other than being kept on a short leash by his doctors) but tumor has not grown. No one seems to know where we are heading but we would love to communicate with anyone who has a similar situation. By the way, although we are from Canada, he had his surgery done at Johns Hopkins - and would recommend it highly.
