Yes...do check with your mother's doctor. My oncologist and radiation oncologist have recommended flushing every 5 to 6 weeks and it sounds as if others have them flushed monthly, when not using it for chemo or other purposes. I think it guards against clots and maybe infection or other problems. I have heard stories of individuals who have had ports for many years without flushing and have had no difficulties but I don't think it is a good idea.
