My father had a port inserted in March of 2006, finished his maintenance chemo treatment in September of 2006. It was suggested we keep the port in just in case additional chemo would be needed. In January of 2007 the cancer had met to the liver. He is now receiving chemo again. We did have the port flushed once a month when he was not receiving the chemo. Hope this helps.
