All this port talk got me to thinking...

Those of you who did whipple adjuvant tx and had a port for that, did they remove it right away after you finished chemo? My mom hasn't had hers removed yet and hasn't asked the doc about it. She finished chemo in late January. I think it should go, due to infection risk. She says, 'well, what if I need chemo again?' I think it would be good for her mental health if the doctor would say - let's get rid of that port, you don't need it anymore. Thoughts?

Also, when they remove one, is that a simple procedure or do they use anesthesia again?? She had twilight anesthesia to put it in. I have no idea what it will be like coming out. I think she's dreading it and that's part of the reason she's stalling too.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!
