It takes a lot of time to recover from a whipple. I had mine in 2004 and was on tube feedings for a month before I could eat anything. I remember being extremely weak and had trouble walking even in the halls of the hospital. On discharge 31 days post op(lots of problems, MRSA, feeding tube fell out, blood clot from Picc line etc) I couldn't walk farther than the car to the house. My husband and I went outside everyday (lucky it was summer) and we walked. Some Days I made it to the neighbor's house but everyday we tried. Finally after a week or so I could walk past the driveway, and then everyday we walked just a couple of steps more. It took a long time but after two months we were walking a hour at a time. I gained my weight back slowly and after two and a half months I was eating enough that we stopped the tube feedings. What a glorious day! Try to encourage all the activity as possible, it helps with your eating and also the pain. It is a slow and long recovery but with love and patience it comes.
