I just tuned in and saw your post about Gemzar. Dad (85 - no Whipple) has been on Gemzar since Fall of 2005. It is every other week. He is given a shot of Aranesp with it to build back the blood counts. Before the Gemzar he had 25 radiation treatments to the tumor. Xeloda was given along with the radiation. He takes prescription enzymes (Creon) which put back the 30 pounds he originally lost.

Our dads cases are not exactly the same, but these guys seem to match in age and spirit. In the beginning, they were doing Gemzar every week but that did not last long because it was hammering the blood count. Once they hit the every other week stride, it started to work and has been working since.

Don't pay attention to the statistics. We were told 3-6 months w/o treatment and 6-12 months with. He is at 19 months and going strong.

New Year's Blessings to You and Yours.
