i posted on board first in november when mum first was told most probable she had pancreatic cancer. This was confirmed and she had whipple march this year and she did well after surgery.Sadly she passed 16th june this year and we as a family were left wondering what went wrong we were given no answers and death certificate said pancreatic cancer.Mum had follow up chemo after whipple which was stopped as she became unwell and was to restart with smaller dose.I felt a stronge urge to contact a Professer in the Beatson Cancer Hospital in Glasgow where mum had her chemo.Asking him for his help to understand what went wrong with mum.He got case notes from last hospital she was in and kindly gave his time to meet with me.The findings are.Mum had 3cms cancer taken from pancreas and 2 lymph nodes out of twelve were cancer. No spread to liver or lungs, she had cachexia which is common in many cancers and wastes the body away even if food is eaten. He said the most probable cause of death was blood clot to lung which caused her to fall on the thursday night and then she was fine and then friday the full clot went to lung.He also said small micro cells would of escaped at time of whipple and were starting to cause her deteriation although to small to show up that is why it is so important to get follow up chemo. She also had superficial wound abscess infection which didnt help.I hope i have not frightened any one but i felt i had to let you know as we thought she died from spread of cancer it wasnt. For any one who has this cancer or your loved one has it please be aware of all the other problems that go with this cancer it cant help our mum but it might help one of you.Nutrition is so important and mum couldnt eat.Asking doctors and nurses everything even if it means you are being a pest.We were left in turmoil why is mum not here. The pancreatic cancer was the underlying condition but it was other problems that set in after she had whipple that led to her death. It makes me sad as she was great for weeks after whipple and it is so sad this happened and that i had to go to a Cancer Professer to get answers. We should of had these answers in June. Please ask everything about this cancer it might help save your loved ones life i only wish i had been more of a nusciance to doctors but i will never know if it would of changed outcome for our mum.thanks for all help in past To SHONA UK, CLAIRE UK,and LIS in Germany who posts and gives great advice to everyone. All the best to all of you who continue to battle this cancer
