Thanks to all of you for responding to my post. I had got it into my head that ascites was an indication that everything was 'shutting down' and was definitely a final stage symptom. It is good to hear that it is possible that it could be controlled,and that he might be with me for a few months more.

Every new symptom is such a worry.This board is a lifeline,I read just about every day but have only posted a couple of times.It is usually possible to dig up the information I need from a search - but this time I was specifically looking for someone with a long survival time after a diagnosis of ascites. Today we have been together for 25 years - I cant even begin to imagine how life would be without him. Thank you again for your help.
