If there are liver mets (have they shown up on a CAT scan?) then surgery is not an option, not ever, no matter if the cancer responds to treatment. The difficulty is doctors hate telling us straight what is and isn't an option. If your mother has advice on chemo from the doctors at Hopkins, then perhaps her local doc should call them and ask what chemo combo sh might try if this current one is not working.
