it is terribly upsetting dealing with pancreatic cancer period. then to deal
with uncaring doctors. When my dad was sick all we wanted was for the doctors
to try to treat us like they cared. I wanted to feel like they were doing
everything they could to help him live not just palliative care. There were
some doctor visits we felt that way and then there was some we felt like
killing the doctors.
However, I need to be honest with you in this reply. Most cases where
patients do chemotherapy to shrink the tumor in the hopes of being able to
have the surgery is when the cancer is maintained to the pancreas and there
is vein involvement. There are not *many* cases where there is liver
involvement that chemo is effective enough to qualify one for surgery. I am
certain there are exceptions to the rule (thank God) but most Stage IVb
Pancreatic Cancer patients never qualify for surgery. BUT BUT BUT there are
several here that have lived for a long time on chemotherapy alone. AND there
is no reason for your mother's doctor to be treating her with surgery as an
option. He should do everything in his power to get her qualified.
Bless you and your family.
