Please respond. My mother has stage 2 PC, she had a complete WHipple 6 weeks ago and has been pushing hard to overcome her lack of energy. She started back to work half days after her 5 th week home; after I left to return to my home in WAshington. She was talking about beginning to realize her life is different now and she has or has had cancer. She believes she may be experiencing the denial and shock of cancer. She said she hasn't cried yet; she feels numb. But she is feeling angry now and a bit depressed as she doesn't regain her energy. Now just today I learned she was ill this weekend...throwing up. She can't eat and rarely sleeps. The surgeon's office finally prescribed a sleeping aid but she says she just feels exhausted. She starts radiation in 4 weeks; it would have been sooner but both the surgeon and radiation doc went on vacation for a month. SO she is scared, sick and alone. How can I help her? I can't get back to New Jersey until her radiation at the end of September. What should I do this is scary for us both? Of course I know this may be common but for us this is all new. We don't know what to expect. Now comes the reality that mom is really never going to be the same again. Yet I read others stories and hear they live full lives so I want to believe she will also. Is that unreasonable? Am I over reacting and this is normal recovery stuff? Any input is appreciated and needed. I have recommended mom get on this chat board and got her on-line but she hasn't chatted yet. She has no support in her community yet. Thanks Kelley
