Dad was diagnosed Father's day last year. He is at 11 months. It was said to be unresectable because af SMA involvement. I wish I knew then what I know now (there are surgeons that will still do the surgery). I would have found him a surgeon then. He started with Gemzar once a week and 5 days a week of radiation for 5 weeks to try and shrink the tumor away from the artery. He was only able to complete 3 treatments of Gemzar because he was not tolerating it well. He kept getting dehydrated. Well after 5 weeks he had a scan and there was no improvement, maybe a little growth and possible mets to liver. His Oncologist was pretty much done. Needless to say, we found another that was willing to be more aggressive. In January dad started on fofox + avastin + tarceva. After 3 cycles we showed a little shrinkage, so we did 3 more. This was 12 weeks. According to Oncologist Cts and pet scans look great. Took scans to surgeon and he said dad is worse, maybe more mets, no surgery. Dad had a break for about 7 weeks after that. I was trying to find a surgeon that would operate anyway. Didnt happen. Dad just started back on the folfox + avastin+ tarceva. Dr. says as long as it is working, we will keep doing it.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions............
