We were originally told NO ONE does surgery on pancreatic tumors that involve arteries...but through internet research I found Dr. Chabot at Columbia University Medical Center in NY...and he does and has...not a lot...high risk..but is getting results. He told us they are doing some of this type of surgery at MD Anderson in TX and in Belgium also...so if there is no evidence of mets on your uncle's scans and his tumor is in the body of the pancrease...not a Whipple candidate..you may want to check this out.
Unfortunately...all of my husbands tests showed no mets and we did go to NY..but when they opened him up they found tumor on liver and abdominal wall...mets that were too small for PET SCAN to pick up and..we were told...CT scans do not pick up small tumors that are the same density as the organ they are on...so lots of nice test that did not tell the truth anyway.
