For those of you who didnt read my post earlier, my 69 yr old mother went
through 5 1/2 weeks of 5 FU and radiation to see if her PC tumor would shrink
out of the SMA. We got the results today. The Dr. sayst there is no
significant change from before. Unfortunately, the radiologist at UPENN did
not even mention the current tumor size or percentage of encasement in the
MRI report. So simply, therefore, no Whipple. Numbers wouldve been nice to
see if the 5 1/2 torture actually amounted to anything for the patient.
Anyway, My mom will now proceed on to Gemzar w/ weekly infusions. She is 91
lbs now (normal weight is around 115). She eats, but not a lot. She has
abdominal pain that we give Oxycodone and Codeine #3 for. I hear w/ Gemzar
you cannot have any drugs with Acetomenophen/Tylenol.
I'd love to hear from others who could not have the whipple, had SMA
encasement and are still fighting this battle. I just want to be prepared as
much as possible.
There are so many wonderful and enlightening stories on here that give my
family and me hope to move on each day. I applaud each patient and caregiver
who has the time, energy and devotion to listen and to answer worried
caregivers like myself at all hours of the day. Prayers and thank yous to all
of you! Arnaz in NJ
