That is a tough question that all PC patients and families ask. I think in many cases, the family members push for treatments because it is hard to accept the 'do nothing' scenerio. The patient may also feel like he/she should try treatment to appease the family members wishes.

As your post indicates that your Mother's treatment may be causing more harm than good, you/your family may want to ask your Mother the question 'Is it worth it?'. Maybe she would welcome the chance to opt out of further treatments in the hope of feeling better. It is, of course, ultimately her chose and either way she needs the family to support her decision.
