Acities is the acculumation of fluid in tissues and abdomen. It can be caused by various things. My husband's is caused because the inferior vena cava (that the vein that returns fluid from your lower extremeties (his acities started only a short time ago so I'm just learning, but hope that helped answer question. As far as pain, Sam has had not any associated with ascities. On the discomfort and full feeling of swelling. I know the discomfort can be much more when the ascities is associated with the abdomen.
