My mom had a g tube and a j tube and was on TPN after complications from a Therasphere injection to the mets in her liver. The nutritionist determined how much TPN and tube feeding she got. We emptied the drainage bag whenever it was full. The nausea was horrible for her, but she ate whatever sounded good at the time. Mostly she threw it up after, but sometimes she kept it down.

As far as nausea, I don't know how bad your husband's is, but my mom's was constant and unbearable. The doctors tried all kinds of medical concotions to relieve it. Nothing worked. When she got so bad, they suggested we contact Hospice. Hospice gave her HALDOL, an anti-psychotic drug, that almost totally stopped the nausea and vomitting. I asked why regular doctors don't prescribe Haldol, and they said they didn't know, but they do all the time for nausea, and it works.

Good luck and prayers.
