My dad had whipple on Sept.1, 2005. He did have lymph node involvement and clear margins. He is following up with the Virginia Mason Protocol. It is very aggressive chemo and radiation but is supposed to reduce the reoccurrance to 50% in comparsion to 65% with standard chemo and radiation and 80% with no follow up treatment. Ofcoarse everyone is different. My aunt (married to my dads brother - no blood relation) had the whipple 9 years ago and had no follow up treatment and is doing great! Dad started the treatment 3 weeks ago today and was doing fine until last night when he blacked out after getting up to go to the restroom. He was hospitalized today for dehydration. They will now put in a feeding tube to help nourish him. He is a big strong man and just hasn't had the appetite to keep him nourished. I beleive Dad will get through this and my faith is what keeps me beleiving. Keep the faith. God bless!
