ALTON

MY HUSBAND, ALTON, AGE 56, WAS DIAGNOISED WITH A PANCREATIC TUMOR 2 1/2CM, ON FEBRUARY 25, 1999. HE WAS IN A LOT OF PAIN AND HAD LOST 35LBS BEFORE THEY DISCOVERED THE TUMOR. HE HAD THE ERCP DONE ON MARCH 2, 1999 AND THE WHIPPLE PROCEDURE DONE ON MARCH 16, 1999. THEY FOUND THAT THE CANCER CELLS HAD SPREAD TO FOUR LYMPH NODES. HE STARTED CHEMO AND RADIATION ON APRIL 26. HE HAS NOT GAINED BACK ANY OF HIS WEIGHT AND IS HAVING TROUBLE ADJUSTING TO THE CHEMO. THEY HAVE STARTED HIM ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT PRESCRIPTIONS TO TRY TO HELP HIS SYSTEM ADJUST. MY HUSBAND WAS IN PERFECT HEALTH, HAD NEVER BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL, NEVER A BROKEN BONE OR ANY STITCHES. THIS HAS BEEN VERY HARD FOR HIM TO ACCEPT. I BELIEVE HIS OVERALL GENERAL GOOD HEALTH HAS HELPED HIM RESPOND TO THE SURGERY VERY WELL. THE ONLY BAD HABIT HE HAD WAS SMOKING BUT HIS NORMAL BLOOD PRESSURE IS 118/78 WHICH IS GREAT. WHEN WE WERE FIRST TOLD I SPENT THE ENTIRE NIGHT READING EVERYTHING THERE WAS ON THIS WED SITED. THE INFORMATION I LEARNED FROM THIS WEB SITE HELPED ME TO HANDLE GETTING THIS FAR. I JUST DIDN'T KNOW IF I WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO SHARE MY HURT AND LIFE WITH EVERYONE ELSE BEFORE NOW. I HAVE SIGNED ON EVERYDAY TO READ ALL THE MESSAGES AND TRY TO PREPARE MYSELF FOR WHAT TO EXPECT SO I CAN HELP HIM. WELL THIS IS A START.
