Unfortunately my mom's tumor is wrapped around too many veins and arteries to operate so the Whipple wasn't an option. I'm not sure if it's still wrapped around them now or not but they said that they won't do the operation...they are hoping that the radiation will shrink it completely. (I'm still confused why they won't just take the pancreas out even if it does shrink the tumor completely because I heard that the only chance of survival is the Whipple operation...so it doesn't make sense to me why they wouldn't do the operation anyway?) I looked into Cyberknife but I was told that they won't do it because of the vein and artery involvement. Yet I heard that there are people on this board that have had cyberknife with vein and artery involvement so it's hard to decide what is best. When we first found out they couldn't operate we got her a second opinion...then the second opinion came back with the same diagnosis and said that he couldn't operate either. They told her that her best bet is chemo and radiation. So that's what she is doing for the next 6 weeks and then when she finishes the radiation we'll have to see what the doctors want to do from here. My mom is too young...she has a lot of years ahead of her...she's 59...and we HAVE to celebrate her 60th next year!!! (she doesn't want us to celebrate it but I told her we are whether she likes it or not! ha, ha, ha...she hates party's....oh well! ) Take care Marilyn. All the best to you and your husband. I hope he has the same good results as my mom does. What size is his tumor? is he in any pain? I also heard that this type of cancer is very painfull and so far my mom is not in any pain, she is just very nausious. She doesn't go on the internet or anything and she doesn't want us to tell her any information that we read. She said she deal with whatever hits her when it comes along, and if she needs any info then at least she knows that she can ask us. This board is a great place, I'm so glad I found it. All the best! :)
