I used to work in a SNF - our patients left the facility to get chemo, and it was paid for as an outpatient procedure (as were things like dialysis, which patients have outside of the facility as well) because we in the pharmacy were not equipt (equipped?) to dispense IV chemo. If it was oral chemo pills we would dispense them and pay for them ourselves (pharmacy budget) because we could not bill medicare ourselves. Medicare only allows about $6 per day per patient for medications in the facility, covered in the overall daily patient rate. (atleast this is what it was 3 yrs ago when i was still there) I don't think you should have a problem getting it paid for, but you are wise to check this from all angles. best of luck - laurie
