War On Cancer Is Personal - (RALEIGH) -- For State Senator Fountain Odom, his personal fights have become political. The lawmaker lost both parents to cancer and survived bladder cancer six years ago, and last fall, tests showed that his wife has pancreatic cancer. Now Odom is abou t to renew a battle against cancer that state legislators launched more than 50 years ago. The Mecklenburg County Democrat has introduced a bill requiring doctors, labs, hospitals and other health providers to report all new cases. He tells the ``Charlotte Observer'' that reporting the cases is important because it could reveal trends. Maintaining the registry costs more than a Million dollars a year. The federal government contributes about a third. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
