While it does seem like a lot of switching, it sounds as if your Mother's oncologist is trying to make sure that she is able to get the best possible treatment. It also sounds as if all this switching is working and she is not missing scheduled treatments. Low platelets are a common side effect with gemzar. ( My husband's platelets recently went low and first they reduced the gemzar by 1/2 and then when his platelets did not come back up, they delayed his treatment by 1 week.) They then did come back up and he was treated.

---- I don't know about the build up in tolerance for later down the road or not. Could be that it may be just the opposite for her because of all the switching her body won't build up to any of the too soon... (Now that I have said all of that, don't get me wrong - I certainly can understand your concern. Since PC is so tough and there is not a clear answer, we are left 2nd guessing and doubting. But as long as the numbers stay good and she is handling the treatments - that is all good) You are a good daughter to be asking the questions.
