Hello, I am new to this board. My wife has BDC and Iíve been active on the BDC board for nearly a year. The problem now concerns her aching red stomach.

A quick overview. She is a young healthily 54 year old when all this started. She was operated in Sept 2003-had her entire bile duct system removed (including the gall bladder) and a Rouyn-X-Y procedure performed to create a new bile duct system. She had two stents installed in Oct 2003 and started chemo & radiation in November. All treatments end in Jan 2004 and the only set back was an infection on the stents in Feb 2004. Since April she was complaining about a sore stomach and an endoscope showed a raw red lined stomach. In late May she got weak and tired, was losing blood trough the scar tissue that was radiation induced. We were on vacation and when we returned she was so weak she could not stand up for more then a few minutes. We saw the oncologist on the 1st of June and found out her blood count was 5 (out of 11 to 13) She was hospitalized for 15 days in June and 10 days in July. She receives 15 pints of blood in June and another 9 in July. (thatís right 3 gallons in 40+ days) Twice the GI performed endoscopes and both times he lasered the bleeding scar tissue. This last time they even did an angeo-graph to find the arteries that we going to the bleeding section of the stomach and block them off. We thought this worked because she only needed another two pint over the next six days. She left the hospital last week with a count over 10, on Friday is remained 10.2 but on Tuesday is down to 8.4 and 7.7 Wednesday when they drew blood for the next transfusion. She received two pints Thursday and weíll see what the count is next Tuesday. If the bleeding continues at this rate and angeo-graph will be performed.

Because the DRs said this is all due to the massive radiation treatments to the pancreas area, I am asking if anyone out there has had similar reactions or problems with stomach pain and bleeding and what was done to heal it..

MIKE
