Last summer, just after Joe was Dx, we went to see Dr. Yeo regarding Joe's 'inoperable' tumor. One of the biggest reasons that we traveled to Baltimore to meet with Yeo was the vaccine trial. The only way to get into the trial is to have the whipple at JH. Everything i had read (at THAT point) sounded to me like that vaccine trial was a very important part of a possible cure for my Joe. I found several articles in medical journals about their methodology and results last summer. It all sounded SO promising.

Of course, Joe was told by Yeo that he really was inoperable... so the trial isn't open to us. But if you CAN get in, I feel that the theories behind their efforts are very sound. Of course, you will want to get all the latest research articles about their progress thus far, to help your dad decide. I would imagine that they can give you photocopies of everything that they have written. It was Dr. Elizabeth Jaffe, as I recall, that is in charge of the trial. I had emailed her and she responded promptly. EVERYONE at JH was pretty good about that, I'd say. We really do wish that Joe could have been treated there. They were all so supportive and professional... and the hospital itself is beautiful. (Of course, YOU already know all of this. I am preaching to the choir!)

Anyway -- get the latest updates and see what YOU think. If we could have, we would have been in it.

Barbara
