Pancreas Cancer Web

Hi... I originally started having lower back pain and pain in the center of my breast bone. We were told that it was pancreatitis and I was put on a very strick diet. The pain continued. More testing was done. I was diagnosised with pc in Aug. 1996. When preparing for an exploratory for pc they found that I had lung cancer. In Sept. 96 they did lung surgery to remove the upper right lob. Then in Nov. 96 I went in for the exploratory. At that time they said that the tumor had attached itself to the pain artery. They could not resect it. Here I was 46 yrs. old with a daughter who was 26 and had just begun her family. I had one grand child and another on the way. My husband, Pete and I had been married for 28 yrs at that time, we just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. He was and is truly an angel sent from above. He has been supportive no matter what I wanted to try. I was given 1 yr to 18 months to live. We were devistated. I did everything and anything that anyone suggested. I have taken and done everything possible. I wanted to treat it naturally and hopefully kill it myself. Like I thought that I could actually do this. Finally the end of March they told us that the tumor was growing. I knew that I had to do something. After talking with the Drs and doing alot of reading I decided to go onto chemo and ratidation. I had nothing to lose but everything to gain from it. They placed a port a cath in the first of April which my lung collasped and I spent 8 days in the hospital. I started on 5 FU at 200 mgs. along with the radiation for 7 weeks one week later. I remained on the 5 FU for 8 months and went to 800 mgs. at the end. It had gotten to be more than I could handle. I had lost down to 92 lbs and still dropping. I could feel myself going down by the days. I still couldn't let go of my hope for a miracle. Stranger things had happened. In January of 1997 my Onc. surgeon called and said that he had a Dr that he wanted me to see at the City of Hope Hospital in Durate, CA It was just 2 1/2 hrs. from where I live so we went. He did alot of testing and then a week later told us that he would like to help me if he could. I went into surgery Jan. 23, 1997. There were promises that it would work. They were not sure that I could come out of the surgery. The surgery lasted for 7 hrs. They removed 60% of my pancreas, duoderm which had a very large ulcer in it, half of my stomach was removed, gallbladder was removed, they had to move my stomach and stationary it to the right, a bowel by pass. I was in ICU for 8 days due to my lungs not working properly. I remained on oxygen for the full time that I was there. They told us that I would be hospitalized for 30 days possiblily and I went home on the 14th day. Of course I came home with a drainage tube and a feeding tube. The feeding tube clogged on the 3rd day so it had to be removed. I had alot of infections that set in. There were just alot of surgeries in a very short amount of time contributed to my breathing problem and infections. I will celebrate my one year mark the 23rd of this month. Were still not out of the woods yet but I thank God for every day that he has given to me. I had to have the port a cath removed the 18th of this month due to a blood clot that had formed. I am now recuperating from it and doing very well. I will have another CT Scan done sometime this month to see if the cancer has resurfaced. This chat line was a heaven sent from day one that I found it. Everyone was so kind and helpful. They gave me strength, hope, understanding, love and faith. People who had there own problems but had the time to give of themselves to someone scared and falling to pieces. I could never thank those that have helped me enough. Everyone on this chat line means more to me than I could every say. I thank and love all of you. I pray for all of those that are patients of this deadly disease and those that are the caretakers for us. If I can be of any help to anyone or you just want someone to talk to then please feel free to email me at anytime. doghoose I pray that they will find a cure for us in the very near future.Love to each of you, Suzi Storm Trooper (a name that was given to me by another chat person here and I have held onto it)

I've read alot of the posted listings by the patients. I would like to share with all of you what I have been thru. In 97 I was diagnosised with pc. I took chemo for 8 1/2 months along with radiation. They had only given me up to 18 months to make it. Here I was 47, with 3 new grandchildren, a wonderful husband. This chat line gave me so much hope, strength, love and care. I have made it for 4 years now. There is always hope and we can't ever give up. If I can help anyone with questions please feel free to email me. My prayers are always each one of you. Always in my thoughts......and always in my prayers. A friend, Suzi

DON'T YOU QUIT When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you're truding seems all up hill, When the funds are low and debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don't you give up.

Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about, When he might have won, had he stuck it out, Don't give though the pace seems slow, You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far, So stick to the fight when your're hardest hit, It's when things seem worse that you must not quit.

I am 51 yrs old. My name is Suzi. A friend that I met on the chatline gave me the name of Suzi Storm Trooper because I refused to give up on hope, prayer and doctors. I have been battling with PC since 1997. My husband has been my caretaker. I've had a whipple, radiation, chemotherapy. I think I've taken just about every med that there is on the market. I feel as tho I have a pharmacy around here. If you have any questions that I can answer, or just need someone to listen or a friend please feel free to email me. I've done microbotic, hemeotherapy, if someone would have told me to boil water and drink it I would have just to try and save my life. Mine was found in 3rd stage. Please feel free to email me any time that you would like too. I am always willing to help with whatever that I can.
