I asked my husband your question -- he's a pediatrician. He said if your mother were dependent on the morphine in any way, a much more common reaction from running out of the morphine would be agitation, not sleepiness. (He added, 'Anything can happen, but agitation would be a much, much more commond side effect, not sleepiness.') My own mother became very sleepy after she took liquid (not your mother's pill form) morphine, and then she would wake up after a half hour or hour name and seem very refreshed and in a good mood. We never ran out of the morphine so I don't know what she would have been like if we had.
