So very sorry about you MIL. My mother's pain was her first symptom, severe enough that they put her on morphine first, then she was on the duragesic patch (eventually up to 400mg patches with morphine for break thru pain). She is now in hospital for pain management. She hallucinated and had psychiatric side effects from demerol and dilaudid. She is now on methadone, which after the fourth day is kicking in well for pain management and the drowsiness is subsiding. It looks like methadone will be the right med for my mom -- this is after being diagnosed in late february and suffering since Dec 2003. I hear that everyone is different with this disease, but wanted you to know that pain was my mom's first symptom. All the best to you and your family...
