Denise, my mom was told she was in remission in november of 2001, in fact if you search the message you will see me questioning about it... This was after a ct scan, and after months of gemzar (mom was diagnosed in may 01)... In february a new ct scan reveal the cancer was out of remission, and growing with a vengenance (mom was not on any chemo from november - february if I recall correctly), for some reason they put her on xeloda for the next form of chemo... Looking back I think they should of put her on the gemzar again since it was working till they took her off it... Mom took the xeloda for a few months, then just plain got tired of fighting... One day in may 02 I believe (maybe late april) I asked my mom why she wouldnt take the medication and keep fighting... Mom told me 'Dawn those pills are just keeping me alive, I am not living anymore'... It hurt but I understood... My mom passed away on June 19th 2002... Her story is in the bio's under DawnK's mom... 13 months was ALOT longer then the dr gave my mom at time of diagnosis (3months) since the cancer had already mets to liver...

I am not trying to douse your happiness at all... And I sincerely hope my mom's story helps, otherwise I wouldnt be here... Its the only reason I even ever read the board anymore (other than the bereavement side) to try and help someone with my mom's story... Good luck

DawnK
