Regarding being 'cautiously hopeful' without having been able to have the whipple, is more like being 'unrealistically hopeful', not just 'cautious' - your father may get a year or two, or even three, but more than that, on chemo/radiation, without surgery, is pretty darn unlikely - I don't even know why the doctor would use the word remission after one treatment of gemzar - it's just strange.

Mention to your parents to bring a notebook or tape recorder with them to appointments - it can be very helpful.
