Hi Sue, my dad has not had a whipple or been on 5FU and radiation. When he was diagnosed, last november, the cancer was too widespread to do a whipple - he started Gemzar and has been on that now for 11 months. He's doing great. No side effects. Eats great. No weight loss. The cancer has started growing a little and his tumor markers are startingto rise, so we're thinking about switching treatments, but the gemzar has been very easy for my dad (age 62). Best of luck to your husband.
