Hi Sandy, I've read the other posts about ERCP and as I understand it that is most commonly the case, but we had a slightly different experience. Damien had to have his stent done surgically (keyhole) because his tumour completely blocks his duodenum. Because a gastric bypass had been done they couldn't pass the endoscope through to where it needed to go for stent placement. Being unable to pass the endoscope through the duodenum was something they discovered on the very first test that took the initial dx biopsy, so you would have thought they would have known not to try it again four months later to insert a stent. But no, they didn't work that out, so he had a longer stay in hospital with an aborted ERCP attempt, then a surgical one. Two days of fasting beforehand/anaesthetic/recovery really knocked him around. I tell you this not to worry you, but so that if this may be the same scenario with Ed that you ask them the likelihood of this so Ed doesn't suffer the same as Damien. Probably your doctors aren't as lacking in competence as those particular ones we had first up. I hope things look up for you guys once the stent is done. Thanks for one of your earlier posts with your email address. I won't email you with my questions just at the moment as I can see you have a lot on your mind. Kind regards, Kim.
