Yesterday I had posted a question about people who have had stents placed getting infections- thanks to many of you for your responses. My mom had a stent placed in June (6/16/03) shortly after dx of stage IV PC with mets to the liver and lymphnodes. She has been to the hospital four times since then (end of June, mid-July, mid-August, and last week) with fevers. Each time they take blood cultures to see if there is an infection, so she stays in the hospital around three days each time. The only time that it was found that she had an infection was in mid-August and it was actually two infections. They pumped her up on antibiotics and it went away. Understandably, she feels that these infections are sometimes her biggest battle. I just don't understand why they keep happening. Can anyone shed some light on this?
