Prilosec or another acid reducer is part of the treatment for ulcers. If the doc finds an ulcer, he/she should also include an antibiotic in the treatment. Research has found that ulcers are partially caused by a bacteria (pylorus bacilli, if the spelling is correct). Prilosec is the best acid reduction agent on the market for now but does have side effects if taken over extended time. My understanding is that a person shouldn't take it for more than 30 days.
